From 2026 onwards, this brewery site will provide space for…

Healthcare organisations, education, neighbourhood facilities, studios for culture, crafts and local production and a large bicycle parking.

The redevelopment includes two construction sites:

  • The old brewery (Hertstraat 5). Centrum voor Geestelijke Gezondheidszorg Andante (centre for mental health) will use two parts of the building. All other parts of the building will eventually be used by a varied mix of users (care institutions, creative makers and ‘t Speelscholeke).
    Construction will take place between February 2025 and May 2026.

  • Huis De Ridder (Turnhoutsebaan 12-14) will be thoroughly renovated between February 2026 and February 2027.

The construction site will proceed in two major phases

The contractor commits to continue working during school holidays (excluding construction leave). The timeline is subject to changes. Those changes will be communicated below.

We'll give you a brief introduction to the surroundings and the implications of the construction site:

  1. Huis De Ridder - Turnhoutsebaan 12-14

    Until February 2026 this will serve as the physical point of contact for information and questions concerning the construction site.

    Between February 2026 and February 2027 Huis De Ridder will be thoroughly renovated. 

  2. the old brewery - Hertstraat 5

  3. ‘t Speelscholeke - Hertstraat 7

  • a. Hertstraat will be used as a supply route for construction materials. Hertstraat will be closed to traffic on both sides. 't Speelscholeke and the surrounding houses will remain accessible via Stalinsstraat. Deliveries and transport with large trailers will not be carried out during the hours below:

    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 

    • 7h30 - 09h00 and 15h00 - 16h30

    • Wednesday: 7.30 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

    • Saturday: from 1 p.m.

    • Sunday: all day

    b. In exceptional circumstances construction vehicles can park on Stalinsplein.
    c. A permanent crane will be used during the construction. It will be placed in the courtyard of the brewery building.

  • d. The entire construction site will be outfitted with the necessary scaffolding. These ensure safe closure of the site and, thanks to cladding, prevent the spillage of debris or dirt.

    e. Traffic in Stalinsstraat can continue to circulate thanks to temporary suspension construction with passage underneath.
    The neighbourhood cycle parking remains accessible
